What is Dry Needling?

x-DSC_0437

Dry needling is the use of acupuncture needles to alleviate muscular pain.  The needles are inserted into a trigger point in a muscle.  Trigger points are taut bands or a point consisting of multiple contraction knots, in the muscle that can generate pain.  Normal muscle does not contain these pain generating points.

These trigger points develop due to overload or overuse of a muscle.  This can be generated by repetitive active loading, or when the body is in a stressed and tense state.

Dry needling is used to treat orthopaedic and musculoskeletal conditions.  This leads to improved joint mobility, reduction in muscle tightness and a decrease in pain and irritation.

We use it commonly at Motion Physio Clinic to treat back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, hip pain, tennis elbow, calf and foot pain.

If you have pain, pop into us at Motion Physio Clinic, Prosperous, Tel: 045 841010.  I can perform an assessment, give you a diagnosis and treat you as required.
